October 9, 1950 — September 20, 2018

Raleigh Edward May, was born October 9, 1950, to Curtis J. and Cleo Margie (Scott) May in Paintsville, Kentucky. He had two brothers and one sister: Roger, Robert, and Patricia.

During Raleigh’s early years, his family moved around quite a bit; living in Michigan, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and finally settling in Springfield, Ohio. Raleigh knew at an early age that he wanted to join the military. At the age of eighteen, he joined the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and lived and traveled over much of the world during his career. After retirement, he and Patsy came to Missouri and settled down in Hartville, Missouri. There he worked for the Wright County Sheriff’s office for seventeen years until his health started failing.

Raleigh was united in marriage to Patsy Dills on December 19, 1980, in Dillon, South Carolina. Raleigh and Patsy have four children: Elizabeth, Kimberly, Harold, and Michael.

Raleigh loved life and enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed visiting with people about his life and his military experiences and would often encourage others to pursue a life in the military.

Raleigh was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Cleo Scott, one brother, Robert J. May, and his sister, Patricia Blair.

He is survived by his loving wife of their home, Patsy, two sons, Harold J. Roberts of Florida, and Michael Wayne May (Amy) of Knoxville, Tennessee, two daughters, Elizabeth Lamson (David) of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Kimberly Miszkiel (Chris) of Knoxville, Tennessee, one brother, Roger May (Connie) of Springfield, Ohio, five grandchildren, Ninfa Guzman, Anthony Guzman (Jenna), Raegan Guzman, Blakely G.
