Ruth Freeman

November 21, 1926 — October 27, 2017

Ruth Berniece Freeman, the daughter of the late Fred and Lena Melton was born November 21, 1926, at Tarkio, Missouri, and passed away October 27, 2017.

Ruth was saved and baptized September 21, 1941, at Rock Springs Church and after getting married, moved her membership to the First Baptist Church in 1950, where she was attending at the time of her passing. Ruth worked at Brown Shoe factory, then at Town & Country Super Market as a cashier for Max and Carolyn Penner, who treated her as family. The next 26 years, Ruth worked at Head Start. She loved to work with children.

She married the love of her life, Lloyd Freeman, August 15, 1947. They were blessed with two children, Doyle Keith, March 28, 1954, and Darlene Sue, November 13, 1957. Ruth enjoyed playing golf. She and Lloyd played in tournaments all over the country. She also loved to fish. They spent a lot of their time on the lakes fishing, always catching plenty of fish to eat and give away. Later in life, when they could no longer golf or fish, they enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center with friends. Ruth and Lloyd had been married 70 wonderful years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Doyle Keith Freeman, three brothers, Darrel, Merrel, and Gene Melton, and four sisters, Gladys Baney, Ernestine McKinney, Maxine Witt, and Ollie Mae Proctor.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd, daughter, Darlene Norris, and son-in-law, Jim Norris, daughter-in-law, Rita Freeman, two sisters, Madge Freeman and Wanda Prock, one brother, Glen Melton, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives who will miss her very much.

Ruth’s request was to be cremated, have a private service at a later date, and be buried at Hillcrest Cemetery.
