Alvis grew up and attended school in Douglas County and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1940. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged on June 3, 1946. He was united in marriage to Mabel “Maxine” Dobson on August 1, 1946 at Dunn, Missouri. Three children were born to this union. Mrs. Hagan passed away in February 10, 2010.
Alvis was employed by Kraft Foods in Springfield, Missouri for several years. He later worked for Dairy Farmers of America in the maintenance department and retired in 1982 after working for twenty-three years.
Alvis enjoyed being outdoors taking care of his farm duties, gardening, fishing and picking blackberries.
He was a longtime member of the Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church near Mtn. Grove and he enjoyed attending as long as his health permitted.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Carol Gilmore; one brother: Boyd Hagan; and by two sisters: Pauline Gann and Lorene Miller.
He is survived by one son: Roy Hagan and his wife, Loretta, of Mtn. Grove; one daughter: Dianna Afuvai of Southwest City, Missouri; one sister: Barbara Brooks and her husband, Charles, of Greenville, Texas; grandchildren: Laura and Patrick Asberry; and Shannon and Dusty Hurley; one great-grandchild: Bowen Hurley; and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
