Barbara Maxine Brooke

Barbara Maxine Brooke, daughter of Paul and Ione Rich Smith, was born July 29, 1947, in Douglas County, Missouri, and departed this life March 3, 2022, at her home in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 4 days.

She was united in marriage to Ferman Brooke who preceded in her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary Smith and Ruth McPhail, brothers, Wayne Smith and Fred Smith, and son-in-law, Matthew Welker.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Lisa Merideth and husband, Michael, and Heather Welker, all of Seymour; grandchildren, Tabitha Shissler and Samantha Thompson; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Heard of Hobbs, New Mexico; brothers, Norman Smith and wife, Bessie, of Marshfield, Dean Smith of Seymour, and Rick Smith and wife, Charlene, of Bartlett, Nebraska; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Barbara was born south of Seymour in rural Douglas County. She attended Ava schools where she graduated in the Class of 1965. She worked all her adult life to provide for her family. She had worked at Zenith, Glen’s A-1 Diner, Hutchens Industries, Rawlings, and she retired from Emersons.

In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, gardening and loved just sitting in the sun with a cup of coffee.

Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend. We have many special memories that we will always cherish.
