Bernard R. Mccarty

Bernard Rheuben McCarty, son of the late Vernon Gaither and Erma (Sloan) McCarty, was born on May 5, 1924 in Vanzant, Missouri, and departed this life on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 90 years of age.
Bernard was a World War II veteran and served with the United States Coast Guard from August 7, 1942 to December 7, 1945. While serving he met and married Neva Margaret Mills on January 25, 1944. They were married for 59 years before she preceded him in death, on July 25, 2003. After Bernard returned from World War II, they lived in the Chicago area for a short time, and then moved to Kansas City Missouri. From there they moved to Wichita, Kansas, Dallas, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They moved back to Missouri in 1978.
Bernard was an over the road truck driver and retired from Transcon. After retirement he drove for Worrell Transport. He enjoyed HAM radio operations as a hobby and his call letters were WB5JDZ.
Besides his wife and parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his two brothers: Bentley McCarty and Jack McCarty; his sister: Mary Elizabeth McCarty; two grandchildren: Hannah McCarty and Chris McCarty; and one great-grandson: Owen Renbarger.

Bernard is survived by his sons: Vernon McCarty and his wife Janine (Hislop) of Choctaw, Oklahoma; Patrick McCarty of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Jack McCarty and his wife Pamela of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Steve McCarty of Branson West, Missouri. His seven grandchildren: Laura Snow, Bethany McCarty, Ryan McCarty, Joseph McCarty, Glenda McCarty, Rob McCarty, and Stephanie McCarty; and three great-grandchildren: Hali Van Winkle, Dylan Hunter, and Abigail McCarty.


Visitation: Wednesday, September 10, 2014 from
6:00 PM-8:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.

Funeral Service: Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.

Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery, Mountain Grove, MO
