Bertha Mae (Hammons) Wood

November 10, 1926 — April 26, 2013

Bertha Mae Hammons Wood, daughter of the late Kelse and Frone Hammons, was born November 10, 1926 in Douglas County, Missouri, and passed away at her home in Mtn. Grove on April 26. She was 86 years old.
Bertha grew up in the Champion and Drury communities and was a graduate of Mtn. Grove High School. Bertha was a faithful member of the First Christian Church for over fifty years.
Bertha was united in marriage to Ellis Wood on May 20, 1946, and the couple had two sons, Ronnie Dean and Randy Ellis. After living on the West Coast for several years, the family moved back to the Mountain Grove area in 1960.
An accomplished seamstress, Bertha enjoyed creating clothing items, quilts, and blankets for family members and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and gardening. Bertha took great pleasure in assisting with church activities including teaching Sunday school classes and helping with countless church dinners over the years.
In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis; her son, Randy Ellis; brothers Dale and Kenneth Hammons; and a grandson, Kelly Dean Wood.
She is survived by her son, Ronnie Dean Wood and his wife, Beverly, of Republic, Missouri; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and sister-in-law.
Bertha will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorials are suggested to either the First Christian Church of Mtn. Grove or to the Penner Cemetery Fund.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Three Rivers Hospice for the wonderful care that they provided for Bertha.

Monday, April 29th from 9:30 - 11:00 AM before the service in the church.
