Betty Mcgowan

February 3, 1950 — October 30, 2017

Betty Delores McGowan, daughter of the late Tom and Nellie Atchison, was born February 3, 1950, in Huggins, Missouri, and passed away October 30, 2017, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 67 years, 8 months, and 27 days of age.

Betty graduated from Mountain Grove High School where she met Buddy McGowan. They were united in marriage February 13, 1968. Three sons were born to this union, Darrin, Brent, and Jamie. Buddy and Betty would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming February.

Betty was very proud of her three boys and her seven grandkids. She enjoyed reading, camping, and cooking as long as she was able to. The boys loved to take her out to eat as much as they could, and she always enjoyed the time spent with them. She also loved to take Sunday drives with Buddy. Most of all, she loved her church and church family. She had to be very sick in order to not make it to church. Betty was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be deeply missed.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leon Atchison, and her grandson, Slayton McGowan.

Betty is survived by her husband, Buddy McGowan, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, three sons, Darrin McGowan and his wife, Jeannie, Brent McGowan and his wife, Lisa, and Jamie McGowan and his wife, Marlisa, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, six grandchildren, Shannon (McGowan) Shannon and her husband, J.D., Dylan Alcorn, Haley McGowan, Clayton McGowan, Wyatt McGowan, and Makenna McGowan, two great-grandchildren, Weston and Shyann, three brothers, Harvey Atchison, Jack Atchison, and George Atchison, two sisters, Virginia Parker and Noralean Bressie and her husband, Dick, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family who will miss her.
