Carol Hanger

October 27, 1954 — February 4, 2023

Carol Jane Hanger, daughter of John William Cole and Lena Fay (Shimel) Cole, was born October 27, 1954, in Marshfield, Missouri, and departed this life on February 4, 2023, in her home near Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of 68 years, 3 months, and 7 days.

On November 3, 1972, she was united in marriage to Donald Hanger and to this union four sons were born.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Cole.

Carol is survived by her mother, Lena, of Mansfield; her husband of 50 years, Donald; sons, Don Hanger and wife, June, of Ava, Missouri, Brad Hanger and wife, Donna, of Mansfield, Jeff Hanger and wife, Sherri, of Seymour, and Nathan Hanger and wife, Melanie, of Mansfield; 18 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patty Hanger and husband, Gary, and Wanda Quinn and husband, Joe, all of Mansfield, Jana McConnell and husband, Monty, of Marshfield; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was born in Marshfield but lived her entire life near Mansfield. She was a graduate of Mansfield High School in the Class of 1972 and worked at the Seymour Bank from 1987 until 1992. Carol received her Master’s degree in reading at Missouri State University in 1992 and taught at Mansfield Schools from 1992 until retiring in 2014.

Carol enjoyed being with family, crocheting, gardening, and quilting. She nurtured and loved her family dearly, always making time for them, praying for them, and supporting them. She often reminded them that being there for each other is what families do. Carol accepted the Lord as her Savior as a young girl and spent the rest of her life serving Him and striving to bring Him glory all her days. She was active in her church family, especially enjoying serving in children’s ministry. She was a true example of Christlike love to others. She was patient, forgiving, kind, hard-working, steady, and one of the most organized people you could ever meet. Her family enjoyed her beautiful smile that lit up her entire face, especially when she would laugh at Donald’s teasing. Her greatest prayer in this world was for her family and friends to know her Savior and see her in heaven one day.
