Charles 'Jerry' Yockey

August 30, 1943 — March 19, 2011

Charles “Jerry” Yockey, son of the late Charles and Margaret (Cockrell) Yockey, was born on August 30, 1943 in Williamsburg, Ohio, and passed away on March 19, 2011 at his residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, surrounded by his family. He was 67 years of age.
Jerry grew up and attended school in Williamsburg. Following high school he served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1966, and later worked for the railroad. He then became an Insulator in 1968, and joined the Local 97 A.B.W. union in Anchorage, Alaska. He traveled across the United States working from Boston to Florida to California and every state in between.
Jerry was united in marriage to Scarlett Gardner on September 23, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to the Mtn. Grove area in 1979. They loved the Ozarks and considered it their home. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when hunting and fishing area lakes on weekends.
Jerry became involved in coaching baseball when his grandson was four years old. He received a great deal of joy and reaped many rewards while coaching. He loved each of his players and continued to be their biggest fan. As his love for children continued, he purchased the skating rink in Mtn. Grove. He made many friends over the years.
In his final ten months of illness, Jerry courageously battled cancer. He always stayed positive and treasured his time spent with his family. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Misty Owens.
He is survived by his loving wife: Scarlett Yockey of their home; his children and grandchildren: Jay Yockey and his wife, Sharon, and their children, Andrew and Ellen, of Mt. Orab, Ohio, Terri Downey and her husband, Michael, and their children, Brittney, Lauren and Tyler, of South Lebeon, Ohio, Burbon Shelley and her children, Dylan and Maddie, of Mtn. Grove, Tammy Hunter and her children, McKenna and Alex, of Seattle, Oregon, Ron Owens and his children, Charlie and Ashley, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lucas Ballinger and his wife, Erica, and their children, Blayne, Bradley and Bret, of Rolla, Missouri; three great-grandchildren; one sister: Jackie Kidd of Williamsburg, Ohio; two sisters-in-law: Sue Mizzoni and her husband, Lou, of Oregon, and Tonuya Roy of Evansville, Indiana; and other relatives and friends.
