Charles Noble Reed

Charles Noble Reed, son of the late Chester A. and Hazel V. (Taylor) Reed, was born on August 1, 1932 in Douglas County, Missouri and departed this life on February 26, 2010 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was 77 years, 6 months and 26 days of age.
Charles grew up in Douglas County where he attended a country school and later graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1950. Following high school, he went into the livestock business with his dad. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and honorably discharged in 1955. He served in the Army Reserves until 1961. Following his discharge, he returned to the family business of buying and selling livestock and feed and hauling livestock to larger markets for the area farmers. In 1964, the Reed family owned and operated a meat processing plant near Mtn. Grove. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area on Wheeler Arch Road for over forty years.
He was united in marriage to Lois Rogers on November 23, 1955 in Texas County, Missouri. Three daughters were born to this union.
Charles was an over the road truck driver for several years and retired in 2007. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when tending to his large vegetable garden each year and sharing the bounty with his family and many friends.
He and Lois attended the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Mtn. Grove where he enjoyed the services and spending time visiting with his friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a half brother: Roy Hale.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years: Lois Reed, of their home; his three daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy and JD Tapp, and Lori and Danny Lathrom, all of Mtn. Grove, and Teena and Terry Bonnarens of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren: Kris, Vanilyn, Danetta, Brittany, Makenzie, Kielye, and Conner; three great-grandchildren: Jon, Adale, and Ellie; four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Lyle Reed of Mtn. Grove and Jerry Reed of Norwood, Missouri; a half-brother: Chester Phillips of Worland, Wyoming; three sisters: Shirley Landon and her husband, Vern, of Lebanon, Missouri, Alice Detherage of Willard, Missouri, and Betty Welch of Brookline, Missouri; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

There once was a man /Who had a plot of land /And it seemed to be his plan /To help everyone he can.
In the spring, hand with a hoe/ And began work on earthly row /Shuffling steps he began to sow /Patiently waited for sprouts to grow.
In summer, crops did bountifully bare/ His, a heart full of neighborly care/ His wealth he did gladly share /Never accepting a single fare.
His wife, kindness and peace/ With a heart full of charity /Him and her, created they three /With the love of many, plain to see.
I looked down at the empty pew /Where he once learned of You /With eagerness, sincere and true /Your presence is missed, by more than a few.

Tuesday March 2, from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
