Darrell Nicholson

Darrell Gene Nicholson, son of the late Eugene and Louise (Manes) Nicholson, was born November 8, 1936, in Claremore, Oklahoma, and departed this life October 6, 2018, at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 81 years, 10 months, and 28 days of age.

Darrell’s family moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, when Darrell was four years old. Darrell was raised in Lee’s Summit. He met Grace Shores in Kansas City, Missouri. They were married June 5, 1955, in Norwood, Missouri, and had three wonderful children. Darrell and Grace moved to Kansas City and lived there until 1959, when they moved back to Norwood, Missouri, to raise their family.

Darrell worked for Se-Ma-No for forty-one years. He started as a Lineman and worked his way up to an Engineer. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and golfing. He always enjoyed helping other people. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and sneaking them a cookie, with or without their parents’ approval. Darrell was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and attended as long as his health permitted.

Besides his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, on March 10, 2014, one son-in-law, Teddy Greenwood, and two sisters, Fern Shipley and Imogene Turner.

He is survived by one son, Dallas Nicholson and his wife, Yvonne, of Norwood, Missouri, two daughters, Brenda Simpson and her husband, Jim, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Linda Greenwood of Norwood, Missouri, one brother, Gary Nicholson and his wife, Connie, two brothers-in-law, Jay Shipley and Jackie Turner all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, seven grandchildren, Brandy Thompson, Marlena Homer, Bobbi Ford, Doug Simpson, Luke Nicholson, Nelson Greenwood, and Rachel Nicholson, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.
