Dixie June Austin

Dixie June Austin, daughter of John and Vina (Carder) Crisp, was born on April 10, 1937 in Manes, Missouri and departed this life on November 23, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was 77 years, 7 months, and 13 days of age.
Dixie grew up in Manes, Missouri and attended school in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1955.

On July 1, 1956, Dixie was united in marriage to Bill Austin in Manes, Missouri. Three daughters were born to this union: Jennifer, Becky and Billie.

Dixie worked at Brown Shoe Company for 35 years. After retiring, she spent her time working in the Mountain Grove Elementary School cafeteria, loving every minute of it. Dixie was very active in her church. She was a childrens church director, Sunday school teacher, and involved in Women on a Mission.

Dixie enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning vegetables, reading, cooking, and spoiling her grandchildren. She had quite a green thumb, and loved her flowers. Dixie always had cookies, cakes, and snacks ready for anyone who came by. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by one daughter: Becky Moore; one son-in-law: Jim Broome; and one brother: Bobby Crisp.

Dixie is survived by her husband: Bill Austin, of the home; two daughters: Jennifer Broome, of Lubbock, Texas, and Billie Miller and her husband, Scott, of Norwood, Missouri; one sister-in-law: Jean Crisp of Harlingen, Texas; one sister: Helen McMurray and her husband, Raymond, of Washington, Missouri; six grandchildren: James Broome and his wife, Heather, Sara McNallen and her husband, Cody, Samantha Miller, Harrison Miller, Theodore Miller, and Charlton Miller; three great-grandchildren; Leah Broome, Lucas Broome, and Rowan McNallen; and a host of other family and friends.


Visitation: Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Southside Baptist Church in Mountain Grove.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Southside Baptist Church in Mountain Grove.

Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions: Gideons, in c/o the funeral home.
