Donald Lee Dabbs

July 18, 1931 — August 16, 2012

Donald “Don” Lee Dabbs, son of the late Arthur and Bessie (Propes) Dabbs, was born on July 18, 1931, near Fisk, Missouri, and passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012 in the Rocky Ridge Manor in Mansfield, Missouri. He was 81 years, and 28 days of age.
Don grew up and attended school in the Fisk, Missouri area. He was united in marriage to Norma Pettypool on July 11, 1951. Five children were born to this union. They made their home in Norwood, Missouri area for several years.
Don was self-employed for many years and enjoyed working on equipment. He also liked visiting with his many friends. He was known to have an outgoing personality and generous spirit to those around him.
He was a kind and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor and friend. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Mildred Watson; and by a grandson: Erik Dabbs.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years: Norma Dabbs of their home; four sons: Steve Dabbs and his wife, Juanita, of Norwood, Missouri, Michael Dabbs of Norwood, Missouri, Jeffrey Dabbs and his wife, Kathy, Elk Creek, Missouri, and Kevin Dabbs and his wife, Marilynn, of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter: Carolyn Smith of Norwood, Missouri; three brothers: Kenneth Dabbs and his wife, Lena, of Potosi, Missouri, Vernon Dabbs and his wife, Carol, of Montgomery, Illinois, and Billy Dabbs and his wife, Linda, of Arizona; two sisters: May Marshall and Brenda Harrison, of Aurora, Illinois; a brother-in-law: Herbert Pettypool of Beebe, Arkansas; a sister-in-law: Wanda Stanton of East Alton, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
The family would like to thank the Compassus Hospice nurses for their care and support through this difficult time. They were invaluable. We would also like to thank the staff of Rocky Ridge Manor for their professionalism and care during Donald’s last days. It was very appreciated.
