Dr. Henry Moyer, son of the late Charles and Theresa (Zoller) Moyer, was born on October 9, 1920 in Springfield, Missouri and departed this life on February 19, 2011 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mount Vernon, Missouri at the age of 90.
Dr. Moyer grew up in Wright County and graduated from Pleasant Hill School. He served his country in the United States Marines in World War II. He served in the Marine Detachment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, the most decorated ship in World War II. He also served in the 26th Marines 5th Division, Fleet Marine Force in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Henry was honorable discharged from the Marines at the Marine Barracks in the Navy Yard in Washington D.C. on October 1, 1948. He received two Presidential Citations, Navy Unit Commendation, Special Secretary of the Navy certificate from the Department of the Navy, and several other awards.
Henry returned home to Fort Smith, Arkansas from overseas in March 1946. On March 23, 1946, he was united in marriage to Eunice S. Hall in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Two children were born to this union. They returned to his home in Fort Smith, Arkansas and then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. While living in Tennessee, Henry was a Marine Recruiter.
On November 1, 1948, Henry enrolled in Chiropractic College. He graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio, Texas on May 2, 1952. Dr. Moyer and his family lived in Tuscaloosa and Eutaw, Alabama where he practiced for several years. They moved to Mountain Grove, Missouri in the fall of 1956 where he practiced until his retirement in 2004.
Dr. Moyer was a long time member of Rock Chapel Free Will Baptist Church north of Norwood, Missouri. He attended as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #30 in Mountain Grove, Missouri.
Dr. Moyer was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Eunice Moyer, on April 12, 2000.
He is survived by one daughter: Patricia Moore and her husband, Shelby, of Norwood, Missouri; one son: Henry Lee Moyer and his wife, Dana, of Chelsea, Oklahoma; three grandsons: Michael Moore and Steven Moore, both of Norwood, Missouri, and Matthew Ross Moyer of Chelsea, Oklahoma; one granddaughter: Sarah Wright of Claremore, Oklahoma; two great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.
His greatest enjoyment was seeing his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was very important to him. We love you, Dad and Grand Dad, and we will miss you until we meet again.
