Edward Russell Young

May 18, 1915 — January 20, 2007

Edward Russell Young was born near what was known as Dawson, Missouri on May 18, 1915 and died on January 20, 2007, age 91 years, 3 months, and 26 days.
He was united in marriage with Nancy Charmaine Shannon on November 14, 1953. In 1901 the Young family moved to a farm near Dawson, Missouri where they lived until February 1925 when they moved to the present location to be closer to the school.
Russell’s father, David Waltman Young’s death was April 23, 1925. Russell’s mother died at Mtn. Grove on August 26, 1960 at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 26 days. Russell had been home bound and bedfast for a number of years and was cared for lovingly by his family, who were faithful to him.
Russell’s sister, Audrey Hutsell died on December 12, 1998, his brother, William Erwin Young, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, died July 9, 1981.
Russell leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Charmaine Young; three nieces and two nephews: Virlee Cardin, Vera Austin, Valera Blackwell, Hulen Hutsell, and J. D. Hutsell. Russell served in World War II with General Patton receiving high honors on the Beach of Omaha battle against the German soldiers. When he returned from the War, he worked for Sho-Me Power Company as an outside lineman until an electric pole fell with him, causing him severe pain for the remainder of his life.
His medical care was under the excellent supervision of Dr. Doyle Hill and Robert T. Andrews, PAC, with all the latest medicines to keep him comfortable each day with the smallest amount of pain.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 1 – 2 PM at the church before the service. Funeral services will be held, Thursday, January 25, 2:00 PM in the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mtn. Grove, with Rev. Bob McQueen officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery with full military honors given by the Amercian Legion Post 30, with Jared Moore serving as bugler. Arrangements are under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mtn. Grove High School Alumni Park or the organ fund at the Trinity United Methodist Church. If the area churches have a fund or plans in memory of Russell, this would be appreciated. All contributions can be made at the funeral home.
