Eloise Mae (Schofield) Harry

Eloise Mae (Schofield) Harry, age 89, of Nevada, Missouri, passed away on October 4, 2011 at Barone Alzheimer’s Center in Nevada. She was born on August 14, 1922 in Norwood, Missouri to Garnett Paden and Mildred Ruth (Roper) Schofield.

Her family moved to Lebanon, Missouri when she was young and she spent her youth attending Lebanon Elementary School and later Lebanon High School before attending Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 1944.

Eloise then moved to Licking, Missouri where she taught band and glee club for Licking High School. She was united in marriage to Bill Harry on August 13, 1946 in Lebanon, Missouri. They made their home in Mtn. Grove, Missouri where Bill managed a family operated clothing store. Eloise continued to provide music education by teaching piano lessons from their home. In 1954, she also started serving as a church organist at the Houston Methodist Church where she graced the congregation with her musical skills until 1994.

On March 3, 1952, the couple’s only child, Mariellen, was born in Springfield, Missouri. Mrs. Harry instilled the love of music and piano in her daughter, who she cherished.

Eloise loved music. She spent many hours listening to classical music on compact discs and on the radio. She would speak with great learned knowledge about composers and the music they wrote. She also meticulously documented the history of her family with photographs and writing. Additionally, she enjoyed watching and identifying birds of all kinds.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Bill Harry in 1990; and by a brother: Joseph Albert Schofield.

Following her husband’s passing, she moved to Mtn. Grove and in 2000 she moved to Nevada, Missouri to be near her daughter and family.

Eloise is survived by her loving daughter: Mariellen Epling and her husband, Tom, of Nevada, Missouri; her grandchildren: Joseph M. Kutina, Arianna E. Dennison, Winter E. Kutina, all of Nevada, Missouri and William H. Kutina of White Earth, North Dakota; her great-grandchildren: Pierson, Parker and Paden Dennison Niya and Kasen Talbert and Brooklyn Kutina, all of Nevada, Missouri; and other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
