Obituary
Elva E. Smith, daughter of the late Frank Marion and Dena (Sanders) Gasperson, was born February 6, 1912 in Mountain Grove, Missouri and departed this life on June 2, 2007 at Texas County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She was 95 years, 3 months, and 27 days of age.
Elva grew up in Mountain Grove. She married Francis Smith on November 30, 1932. Four children were born to this union. Both she and Francis were converted during a long five-week revival at Victory Church in Vanzant, Missouri in January of 1950.
Elva was an excellent cook and she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Elva was born in her family’s home in Mountain Grove, later moved south of town with her husband, and when she and her husband moved back to town, they bought their final home within feet of her birthplace. She will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, Elva was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and one sister.
She is survived by one son: Basil Smith and his wife, Marcie, of Vanzant, Missouri; three daughters: JoAnn Newberry and her husband, Don, of Vanzant, Missouri, Linda Collins and her husband, J.W., of Dora, and Rachel Nesbit of Mountain Grove; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
