Emily 'Lucille' Jarrett

October 3, 1912 — May 9, 2009

Emily “Lucille” Jarrett, daughter of the late John and Alberta (Orr) Cowan, was born on October 3, 1912 in Elk, California, and departed this life on May 9, 2009 in Hanford Community Medical Center in Hanford, California. She was 96 years, 7 months and 6 days of age. At the time of her passing, she was living with her daughter June Gentry in Kingsburg, California, where she had lived for the past several years.
Lucille grew up and attended school in San Joaquin Valley, California and grauated from high school in Strathmore, California. She was united in marriage to Wayne Richard Jarrett in October of 1929 in Tulare, California. Five children were born to this union: Margaret, June, Richard, Eugene, and Mary.
They raised their children in California until the passing of his mother. Wayne purchased the family farm near Norwood, Missouri in 1943. They continued to live there for many years. Wayne passed away in 1988.
Lucille was a true homemaker, taking care of her family, tending to her garden each year and working on the farm.
She was the founder and leader of Camp Fire Girls Group in Norwood and was active in the Ladies Aide Society for many years. She also enjoyed researching the Jarrett family genealogy in her spare time. She liked to write daily in her diary of what events occurred and the weather for each day over many years.
Lucille was a very active longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Norwood. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and serving as pianist for many years.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her. She leaves five generations of children and grandchildren to carry on her legacy of love for those around her.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Wishart Cowan and Robert Cowan; and by one sister: Marjorie Thompson.
She is survived by two sons and their wives: Richard and Peggy Jarrett of Malan, Oregon, and Eugene and Patty Jarrett of Ulrich, Missouri; three daughters: Margaret (Jarrett) Wooden of Bakersfield, California, June (Jarrett) Gentry of Kingsburg, California, and Mary Jarrett of Norwood, Missouri; one brother: Douglas Cowan of Surprise, Arizona; one sister: Betty Greenlee of Livermore, California; two sisters-in-law: Katy Cowan and Pauline Cowan; thirty-three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of neighbors, friends, church family, and relatives to mourn her passing.


Funeral Services:
Friday, May 15, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
Visitation:
No Formal - Friends may call at their convenience on Thursday, May 14th from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM in the funeral home.

Caudle Cemetery - Norwood, MO
