Eugene S. Phillips

October 9, 1941 — April 6, 2019

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Lt. Colonel Eugene Stroud Phillips was born October 9, 1941 in Charleston, South Carolina, and passed on to eternity April 6, 2019 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri.

Retired Green Beret Eugene Phillips spent almost half of his life in military circles, graduating from Camden Military Academy, The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Officer Candidate School, Command and General Staff College, and other Army schools and courses.

Among honors he earned are the Combat Infantry Badge, Jump Wings, and two Bronze Stars. He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. Gene wrote and published a novel, “Remember Me? A Soldier’s Journey” partially based on his time in Vietnam. He received a Master’s Degree from Colorado State University and taught high school social studies for six years in Sacramento, California.

Gene and his wife, Jeanne, lived in Missouri for seventeen years until his passing from Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. He struggled greatly for several years prior to his passing.

Gene was a man of great integrity and persistence in all things he did. He adored his large family of dogs and cats, all of whom were “rescues.”

“For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come… shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
