Fern Melton

Fern Louise Melton, daughter of the late Fred and Nellie (Rhodes) Holt, was born on December 28, 1933, in Wright County, Missouri, and departed this life on April 18, 2016, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 82 years, 3 months, and 21 days of age.
Early in her career, Fern was a Nurses Aid at the nursing home and at the Mansfield Hospital. She later worked at Walmart for several years. She loved gardening flowers and vegetables, and enjoyed raising chickens. Fern loved family gatherings and spending time with her loved ones. She also loved her Pomeranian dog named Pookie. Fern had a generous personality and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Fern was preceded in death by two brothers: Tom Holt and Jupe Holt; two sisters: Sharon Kay Carriger and Janet Sue Holt; one son: John Melton; and one grandson: Larry Melton.
She is survived by one son: Bob Melton and his wife, Nancy, of Macomb, Missouri; one daughter: Brenda Shores of Mansfield, Missouri; one brother: Danny Holt and his wife, Melissa, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; four sisters: Thelma Emery and her husband, Gene, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Velma Hicks and her husband, Lawrence, of Waynesville, Missouri, Margaret Tanner and her husband, Bucky, of Richland, Missouri, and Donna Whitson of Waynesville, Missouri; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; twenty-one nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.


Visitation: Wednesday, April 20, 2016, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: Thursday, April 21, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.

Burial: Lone Star Cemetery
