Gary Donald Hurley

March 29, 1947 — September 28, 2013

Gary Donald Hurley, son of the late Hobart and Ressie (Wade) Hurley, was born March 29, 1947 near Manes, Missouri, and departed this life peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on September 28, 2013. He was 66 years, 5 months, and 30 days of age.

Gary attended Manes School and then graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1965. He later graduated from Central Bible College in 1979.

On September 23, 1967, Gary was united in marriage to Barbara Coble. They first met at Evening Shade Church. They had recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.

Gary was in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970, with a tour to Thailand during the Viet Nam War. He worked for the United States Postal Service from 1970 to 2002. Gary also served on several boards, including the Board of Northern Wright County Volunteer Fire Department.

In 1962, Gary professed faith in Christ. He entered the ministry in 1974. His first and last church to pastor was Evening Shade. He continued to preach the Word of God even after his stroke and did not resign from ministry until December, 2012.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife and love of his life: Barbara; his son: Gary Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Springfield, Missouri; his daughter: Amy DeVane and her husband, Jason, also of Springfield; his grandchildren: Ryan Davis, Walker Hurley, Madison Davis, Blake Hurley, Jaxon DeVane, Angelica Morris, Courtney Morris, and Charity Morris; two great-grandsons: Jacob and Aiden Erpelding; two brothers: Edwin Wade and his wife, Donna, and Johnnie Hurley and his wife, Nadine, of Mtn. Grove; three sisters: Nadine Hart and her husband, Leonard, of Mansfield, Missouri, Imogene Key and her husband, Bill, of Springfield, Missouri, and Kay Robertson of Mtn. Grove; and many other relatives and friends who will miss him deeply.
