Gean Coffman

January 22, 1934 — March 31, 2012

Gean Coffman, son of Carrie (Long) Coffman and the late Rass W. Coffman, was born on January 22, 1934 in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and departed this life on March 31, 2012, at 78 years of age.

Gean grew up in Wright County and graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1952. He then moved to Davenport, Iowa. He served in the United States Army in active duty and in the Reserves for six years and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1962. Gean worked for ALCOA Aluminum and retired after 30 years of service. After retiring, he and his family moved back to Mountain Grove to operate a small beef farm north of Mountain Grove where he had lived for almost 30 years.

Gean was united in marriage to Joyce Followwill on August 31, 1962 in Iowa. Four children were born to this union; Bradley, Cindy, Brant, and Jennifer.

Gean enjoyed trail rides with his brother, Dean, and his many friends. He enjoyed going to horse sales, horse shows, and farm auctions. He spent much of his time outside with his animals, hunting, and cutting hay in the summer. He recently accepted the Lord as his Savior and was happy to proclaim that he was a believer.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Bradley and Brant; four brothers: Farris, Francis, Harold, and Darold; and by an infant sister, Ruby.

Gean is survived by his loving wife of the home: Joyce; his daughters: Cindy McCabe, of Buffalo, Iowa, and Jennifer Pennell and her husband, Ryan, of Springfield, Missouri; one granddaughter: Brooke Basye of Durant, Iowa; one grandson: Blane McCabe of Buffalo, Iowa; his mother: Carrie Coffman of Mountain Grove; two brothers: Dean Coffman and his wife, Sandy, of Mountain Grove, Buck Coffman and his wife, Sharon, of Hartville, Missouri; five sisters: Mable Tetrick of Mountain Grove, Dottie Perryman of Raymondville, Missouri, Donna Carlson and her husband, Sam, of Mountain Grove, Patsy Hamilton of Mountain Grove, and Darlene Bradshaw and her husband, Glen, of Norwood, Missouri; a very special niece: Tracy Smith of Tecumseh, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and dear friends who will miss him very much.
