Gene Postlewait

Delbert Gene Postlewait, son of John Jefferson and Lucy Jane (Crewse) Postlewait, was born on February 6, 1935 in Huggins, Missouri and departed this life on July 12, 2015 in Hartville, Missouri. He was 80 years, 5 months, and 6 days of age.
Gene grew up in the Huggins and Mountain Grove area and graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1954.
He was saved and baptized and began preaching at the age of 20. He preached and pastored Free Will Baptist churches in Missouri for 54 years, retiring from the ministry in 2009 due to health complications. At the time of his passing, Gene was a member of the Willow Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Mountain Grove.
He married his sweetheart, Glenna Todd, on September 25, 1955 in Mountain Grove, Missouri. To this union three children were born: Debra Marie, Terry Gene, and Michael Dean.
After they married, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he went to work for Manor Baking Company as a route salesman. After moving back home to Mountain Grove in 1959, he owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station. After selling the gas station, he went to work as a plumber for Sanders & McCarty Plumbing Shop. In 1961, Gene and Glenna bought a farm in Huggins and he began working with Civil Service in Ft. Leonard Wood and retired in 1972. In 1976, he went to work as a postal carrier out of the Graff post office where he retired at age 62.
Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife, family, and friends and making special memories. He also enjoyed woodworking, watching westerns, and St. Louis Cardinal ballgames.
He was preceded in death by his father: John Jefferson; mother: Lucy Jane; brothers: Wade, Wayne, Harold, Clyde, James, Carl, Johnny, Paul; sister: Freida; an infant brother; and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Glenna; daughter and son-in-law: Debra and Duane Crewse of Mtn. Grove; son and daughter-in-law: Terry and Jessica of Aurora; son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Kelly of Stockton; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are sisters: Bernice and Margie; and twin brother: Dean, all of Mountain Grove.


Visitation: Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.

Burial: Cabool City Cemetery
Cabool, Missouri
