Genevieve Hoffman

November 3, 1926 — November 26, 2009

Genevieve “Jean” Marie Hoffman, daughter of Edwin and Alberta (Hoster) Boyungs, was born on November 3, 1926 in Sterling, Illinois, and departed this life on November 26, 2009 in the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri at 83 years of age.
Jean shared many stories of her active childhood of swimming, riding her bicycle around the county, ice skating on the bayou and being a champion baton twirler. She was an avid reader and worked her way up to department head at the local department store. In 1940, Jean met Clifford Hoffman who had taken a job in Sterling before getting drafted for World War II. She waited at home until her soldier returned from Europe and they were married in Sterling on October 26, 1946. Jean and Clifford settled in Mtn. Grove where she was a devoted and loving wife of 63 years and mother of two children.
Jean loved to garden and grow flowers. She was quick to volunteer for anything to help her children, from PTA to Girl Scouts and Little League. She was the most popular chauffeur of all the little scouts because of her love of sports and quick wit. She also worked in local retail stores, most notably, Pamperien’s Market, until her declining eyesight forced her to give that up. In recent years, she enjoyed following the lives of all her family and they will miss her so very much.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Richard Boyungs; and by her sister: Donna Andrews.
She is survived by her loving husband: Clifford Hoffman; her sister: Nancy Ramirez and her husband, Louie, of Sterling, Illinois; her son: David Hoffman and his wife, Mary, of Pensacola, Florida; her daughter: Carol Dawson and her husband, Dallas, of Mtn. Grove; four grandchildren: Valerie Wylie of Hartville, Missouri, Hannah Dawson-Gaither of Bolivar, Missouri; Andrew Hoffman of Asheville, North Carolina, and Robert Hoffman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and she was “Grandma Great” to seven great-grandchildren.
