George Earl Bryant

April 5, 1943 — March 20, 2015

George Earl Bryant, son of the late Earl and Iona Adela (Wingert) Bryant, was born on April 5, 1943 in Cabool, Missouri and entered Glory on March 20, 2015 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was 71 years, 11 months, and 15 days of age.


George was united in marriage to Edwina Williams on September 3, 1961. Seven children were born to this union: Mark, Randy, Christopher, Michael, John, Kathleen, and Debra. George and Edwina were married for 38 years before her passing on August 26, 2000.



Later, George was united in marriage to Ruth Nevius on October 3, 2001 in Springfield, Missouri. He became the step-father to four children: Mark, David, Becky, and Carol.



George enjoyed gardening, wood working, singing, and music. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



George pastored Baptist churches in California, Kansas, and Missouri, having founded the Mountain Grove Baptist Temple. He also founded Century 21 Real Estate in Mountain Grove.



George worked in various positions in radio, such as Disc Jockey, Underwriting Director, and Manager. He worked at KTRI in Mansfield, Missouri and KWFC in Springfield, Missouri. George was known throughout the Ozarks for his love of southern gospel music, both on radio and singing with his family group, and as a preacher of the Gospel. Heaven has gained a booming bass voice.



Besides his parents and his first wife, George was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Trisha Bryant.



He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of the home; seven sons: Mark Bryant and his wife, Debbie, of Springfield, Missouri, Randy Bryant and his wife, Heather, of Willard, Missouri, Christopher Bryant of Springfield, Missouri, Michael Bryant of Sullivan, Missouri, John Bryant and his wife, Lori, of Springfield, Missouri, Mark Penick of Springfield, Missouri, and David Penick and his wife, Jayla, of Springfield, Missouri; four daughters: Kathleen Sweatt and her husband, Daniel, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Debra Bryant of Springfield, Missouri, Becky Penick of Springfield, Missouri, and Carol Penick of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters: Iona Glenn and her husband, Robert, of Rogersville, Missouri, and Eloise Bonnie Summers of Nebraska; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. George will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.


Visitation: Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 9:00-10:30 AM at First Free Will Baptist Church, Mountain Grove, Missouri.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 10:30 AM at First Free Will Baptist Church, Mountain Grove, Missouri

Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery, Mountain Grove, Missouri
