Gerald Largent

December 2, 1932 — January 5, 2018

Gerald Largent, son of the late Burt and Sybil (Sanders) Largent, was born December 2, 1932, in Houston, Missouri, and departed this life January 5, 2018, in the Kansas City VA Hospital. He was 85 years, 1 month, and 3 days of age.

Gerald’s parents divorced when he was three months old. He moved to Mountain Grove in 1943, living with his mother, Sybil, his grandmother, Martha Ellen Sanders, his aunt, Ermal Sanders, and his dog, Penny. Gerald had three brothers, Dale Largent, John Largent, and Don Largent. As a boy, he worked in the barber shop and in the theater before he joined the service in 1952. He served his country in the Air Force until he retired in 1972, being stationed in other countries as well as in the United States. After he retired from the Air Force, he started a second career in real estate, eventually opening his own office. He enjoyed helping others.

Gerald married Patie L. Graven on August 12, 1956, while in the Air Force. They had known each other since they were children. There were four children born to this union, Linna E. Largent, Gerald S. Largent, Stephanie I. Largent, and Wesley E. Largent. Gerald was a loving husband, father, and family man.

He became a Scout Leader for his sons’ scout groups. He arranged special visits on base and planes for the Boy Scouts. Even retired from service, he arranged for the scout group and families to fish at some ponds on base. He sponsored little league soccer teams. He always looked out for his wife and his family. He was there for everyone that needed him. He loved to play golf and tennis earlier in life. He enjoyed keeping photos of Native American artwork on calendars and keepsakes. He loved to fish as long as his health allowed him to. He was the type of man who had to do things for himself and had a hard time letting others do for him. He enjoyed to shoot pool with family and friends and he enjoyed artwork and museums.

Gerald had lived in Grandview, Missouri, since 1972, but he always loved Mountain Grove.

Besides his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie in 2003, and his brothers, Dale, John, and Don.

He is survived by his wife, Patie, of their home in Grandview, Missouri, two sons, Gerald Largent and Wesley Largent, both of Grandview, Missouri, one daughter, Linna Largent of Kansas City, Missouri, and other relatives and friends who will miss him.
