Gertrude Hendrix

Gertrude W. Hendrix, daughter of the late Carl John and Julia (Leiss) Olson, was born on February 27, 1931 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and passed away on March 1, 2007 at her residence near Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a short illness. She was 76 years and 2 days of age.
Gertrude grew up and attended school in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Thedford Hendrix on June 8, 1952 in Lowell, Massachusetts. Five children were born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area for the last twenty-eight years. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially when tending to her garden and bird watching. She also enjoyed painting, crocheting, and sitting down with friends for a cup of coffee and visiting. She was always willing to provide a meal and a place to stay for anyone in need.
Gertrude was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Thedford P. Hendrix on December 13, 1995; one son: Neil Hendrix; one brother: Matthew Olson; and by one sister: Norma Jean Olson.
She survived by three sons: Richard Hendrix and Denise of Mtn. Grove, Dean Hendrix of Mtn. Grove, and Byron Hendrix and his wife, Darcy of Norfolk, Virginia; one daughter: Nancy Newkirk and her husband, Bob of Algona, Iowa; one brother: Earl Olson and his wife, Avon of Fort Dodge, Iowa; four sisters: Janett Olson of San Diego, California, Phyllis Dees and her husband, John of the State of Texas, Bertha Youngquest and her husband, Wayne of Payton, Iowa and Marilyn Marsh and her husband, Dicky of Fort Dodge, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the neighbor children for their care of Gertrude through her illness.
Graveside services for Gertrude Hendrix were held Monday, March 5, 10:00 AM in the Willow Springs Cemetery with Rev. Duane Crewse officiating. Burial was in the Willow Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, MO.
