Gladys Wade

August 20, 1909 — January 4, 2011

Gladys (Baty) Rogers Wade, formerly of Manes, Missouri was born on August 20, 1909 in the Evening Shade Community to the late Calvin (Cal) and Lucinda (Cindy) Crisp Baty and departed this life on January 4, 2011 at the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri after a long illness. She was 101 years, 4 months, and 16 days of age.

While she was a young girl, her parents bought a farm and moved to the Bendavis community where she attended the Alice School. She was led to the Lord by her Uncle Lige Baty who was a circuit rider preacher. In 1929, she married Newt Rogers of the Manes community where they made their home. Newt was involved in a car accident and became paralyzed. Gladys nurtured him back to health and cared for him until his passing in 1961.

In the mid forties, the family operated the general merchandise store in Embree, Missouri for several years. She married Jack Wade in 1962. He became disabled and she nurtured and cared for him until his passing. Gladys was the mother of four sons. She was a hard worker and loved being outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was also one of the first people to give toward establishing the Manes Music Makers.

Besides her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her two husbands: Newt Rogers and Jack Wade; her four sons: Sterling Baty, Wesley Rogers Jr., Leonard Lee Rogers, and Jimmy Rogers; three brothers: Leonard, Lyle, and Leroy Baty; and one sister: Agnes Rogers.

She is survived by two daughters-in-law: Janace Baty (who helped with her care and needs) and Chris Rogers; three grandchildren: Arthur Rogers, Brenda Gammon, and David Lynch; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends; and her family at Autumn Oaks and Hospice Compassus. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
