Golda Lorene Bennett

July 23, 1921 — February 12, 2011

Golda “Lorene” Bennett, daughter of the late Con Rod and Hester Anna (Gray) Raney, was born on July 23, 1921 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri following a long illness. She was 89 years, 6 months and 19 days of age.
Lorene grew up and attended school in Wright County and graduated from Norwood High School. She was united in marriage to Roy Bennett on July 30, 1941 in Macomb, Missouri. Three children were born to this union: Roy Eugene, Velma Maxine and Paula Faye. They made their home in the Macomb area all of their lives. Mr. Bennett passed away on August 30, 2007.
Lorene retired from Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Company in Mansfield after working for twenty-eight years.
She was a true homemaker, who took great pride in taking care of her family. She made her children’s clothing and she enjoyed embroidery work, quilting, gardening and canning. She was also well known for making the “best pies” in the country. Lorene was a hardworking woman who also helped out with the chores on the family farm.
She was a longtime member of the Corinth Baptist Church in Macomb.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Bert, Rod, Chester and Robert Raney; four sisters: Bertha Jackson, Vialta Whitewater, Doris Kenneth and Dorothy Raney; her half-brother: Andrew; five half-sisters: Alice, Maggie, Emma, Ida and Pearl; and by four infant siblings.
She is survived by her son: Roy E. Bennett and his wife, Karen; two daughters: Maxine Bennett and Paula Bennett, all of Macomb, Missouri; one brother: Melvin Van Raney of Lees Summit, Missouri; one sister: Oleva Wiseman of Louisville, Kentucky; a half-brother: Homer Johnston of St. Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren: Jeana Booth, Clifton & Natosha Bennett, Jeffrey and Gina Bennett, and Lorenda Bennett; nine great-grandchildren: Ashley Norman, Amanda Culley, Page Bennett, Travis Bennett, Trevor Bennett, T.J. Bennett, Derek Bennett, Broc Bennett, and Lucas Bennett; five great-great-grandchildren: Ethan, Miranda, Isabella, Zalein, and Elizabeth; several nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.


Funeral Service: Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
Visitation: Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the Chapel.Burial: Ashley Cemetery, Macomb, MO
