Grace Avis (Shores) Nicholson

December 20, 1934 — March 10, 2014

Grace Avis Nicholson, daughter of the late Charlie E. and Eva (Richardson) Shores, was born on December 20, 1934 in Macomb, Missouri, and departed this life on March 10, 2014 in the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, following an extended illness. She was 79 years, 2 months, and 20 days of age. Grace grew up in the Macomb area and attended school in Mansfield and graduated from Mansfield High School. She was united in marriage to Darrell Nicholson on June 5, 1955. After their marriage, Grace and Darrell moved to Kansas City, Missouri where they lived until 1959. They moved back to Missouri to make their home and raise their family. Grace was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and playing games with them whenever she got the chance. Her pride and joy was getting to spend time with grandchildren. Grace enjoyed shopping, camping, traveling, cooking, collecting angels, and tending to her flower gardens. She was saved at the age of fourteen in the Corinth Baptist Church and was a life-long church member, who served in various positions; such as singing in the choir, Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and helping in vacation Bible School each year. Grace loved her church family very much and looked forward to attending services and visiting with her many friends. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Everett Shores, Billy Ray Shores, and James Shores; two sisters: Bertha Atchison and Bonnie King; three brothers-in-law: Mac King, Emerson Atchison and Bill Blanton; a sister-in-law: Dusty Shores; three nephews: David Blanton, Ronnie Atchison, and Billy Joe King; and by a niece: Eva Wright. She is survived by her husband of almost fifty-nine years: Darrell Nicholson of their home; one son: Dallas Nicholson and his wife, Yvonne, of Norwood, Missouri; twin daughters: Brenda Simpson and her husband, Jim, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and Linda Greenwood and her husband, Teddy, of Norwood, Missouri; one brother: John Shores and his wife, Shirley, of Norwood, Missouri; one sister: Stella Blanton of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters-in-law: Imogene Turner and her husband, Jackie, and Fern Shipley and her husband, Jay; a brother-in-law: Gary Nicholson and his wife, Connie, all of Lees Summit, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Luke Nicholson and his wife, Amanda, Rachel Nicholson, Marlena Homer and her husband, Davy, Doug Simpson, Brandy Thompson, Nelson Greenwood and his wife, Brittany, and Bobbi Ford and her husband, TJ; thirteen great-grandchildren: Austin, Skylar, Sara, Donovan, Charlie, Dyson, Dylan, Tucker, Hunter, Clair, Derek, Gabriel, and Nola Grace; four step-great-grandchildren: Cody, Jake, Melvin, and Jaxson; two great-great-grandsons: Noah and Cooper; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.


Visitation: Thursday, March 13th from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel. Funeral Service: Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Corinth Baptist Church. Burial: Retherford Cemetery Memorial Contributions: Corinth Baptist Church Building Fund or Retherford Cemetery, c/o the funeral home.
