Harriett Elizabeth Cottengim

Harriett Elizabeth Cottengim, daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Coleman) Ross, was born on December 7, 1928 in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, and departed this life on August 26, 2013 in the Mercy Hospital of Springfield, Missouri. She was 84 years of age.
Harriett was a graduate of Ovid High School in Ovid, New York. She was united in marriage on July 12, 1946 in Willard, New York to Victor Van Cottengim of Macomb, Missouri. Two children were born to this union. Van served his country in the U.S. Navy. They lived in New York and Texas throughout his service. After Van was discharged the family made their home in Waterloo, New York. Harriett worked as an administrative assistant for the Canandaigua Sheriff’s Department. Upon retiring in 1991, the couple moved to Macomb, Missouri.
Harriett enjoyed family gatherings at her home in Macomb. She was well known for her brownie making abilities. She also greatly enjoyed knitting. Harriett and Van loved to raise horses. Harriett was the secretary for Pony of America Club and together they raised Appaloosa horses and Pony of America ponies for many years. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents and husband, Harriett was preceded in death by her daughter: Sharon Lee; her brother: Alonzo “Bud” Ross; and two sisters: Lillian Jennings and Hilda Holmberg.
She is survived by her son: Victor Cottengim, Jr. and wife, Mary Pat, of Penfield, New York; seven grandchildren: Mark Daniel Bower, Victoria Lynn Shoe, John Michael Munson, Matthew Denver Cottengim, Ashley Elizabeth Cottengim, Heath Austin Cottengim, and Seth Michael Cottengim; other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.
