Harry John Sherwood

October 19, 1936 — January 2, 2019

Harry John Sherwood, son of the late Cletus and Florence (Rzepka) Sherwood, was born on October 19, 1936, in Batavia, New York, and passed away suddenly on January 2, 2019, at home with loved ones by his side. Harry was 82 years, 2 months and 14 days of age.

Harry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Roberta Jean Devon, on April 11, 1959, at the Colgate Divinity Chapel in Rochester, New York.

Harry proudly served in the United States Army between May of 1956 and May of 1958. After his military service, he returned to work at Eastman Kodak Company at its headquarters in Rochester, New York, where he worked for 35 years before retiring and moving to Arizona.

The Lord blessed Harry with a helping and kind spirit throughout his life. He was an active parishioner at South Street Church of God in Mountain Grove and served on the Board of Directors. He also continued to serve as a Board Member of the Tri County Veterans. In fact, he was their top salesman for their raffles tickets. Harry never did meet a stranger.

Harry married his sweetheart, Neoma Meredith, on December 27, 2014. Although their time together was brief, they stayed busy with their support of various organizations; as well as his hobbies of crosswords, picture puzzles, walnut collecting, and bird-watching from his back deck. He loved watching and discussing sports – GO CARDINALS! Harry’s other love was his passion for the outdoors. It’s what actually brought him to Missouri in the first place. He felt the hunting in New York, Arizona, New Mexico or Pennsylvania paled in comparison. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter. He spent hours trapping and was truly at peace in the woods with his dogs.

Besides his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta, on February 23, 2007.

Harry is survived by his second wife, Neoma Sherwood, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, his daughter, Renee Estes and her husband, Mathew, his grandson, Hunter Shane, all of Ahwatukee, Arizona, two sisters, Dolores Donaghue of Batavia, New York and Jeanne Thomann of Rochester, New York, step-children, Kenny Meredith of Virginia, Candy Hickerson and her son, Ryan, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Allan Meredith and his wife, Michele, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and many other friends, family and neighbors who loved and will miss him greatly.

As Harry would always say after visiting with you – “Keep Smiling!”

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tri-County Veterans Association in care of the funeral home.
