Jamie Travis Black

May 25, 1977 — January 22, 2011

Jamie Travis Black, son of Jimmy and Donna (Ellis) Black, was born on May 25, 1977 in Springfield, Missouri and departed this life on January 22, 2011 at his home in Nixa, Missouri, after a long battle with cancer at 33 years of age surrounded by his family and friends.
Jamie grew up in Mountain Grove, Missouri and graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1995. He married his high school sweetheart, Leslie Ward, on July 19, 1997. Two children were born to this union, Morgan and Justin.
Second only to God was Jamie’s family. He loved them greatly and cherished time spent with them. Jamie enjoyed mountain biking and loved taking his family to the St. Louis Cardinals games. He was an avid sports fan.
Jamie was saved and baptized at the age of nine. Praising and honoring God was of utmost importance to Jamie. He glorified Him in his life as well as in his death. Jamie was diagnosed with cancer on November 20, 2003. He fought a long and courageous battle and won the second he stepped onto the shores of Heaven. He will be deeply missed but he leaves to his family his legacy of faith.
Jamie is survived by his loving wife of their home: Leslie Black; their two children: Morgan and Justin; his parents: Jim and Donna Black of Hartville, Missouri; his father and mother-in-law: Jim and Sandy Ward; one sister: Tilli Daylong and her husband, Bill, and one brother: Shaun Black and his wife, Tara, all of Bentonville, Arkansas; one sister-in-law: Terri and her husband, Len, of St. Peters, Missouri; eleven nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends, and church family who will miss him greatly. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Seasons Hospice.
