Jane Carter

October 9, 1939 — November 29, 2022

Jane Marie Carter, daughter of the late Elmer and Ruth (Elliott) Dowsey, was born October 9, 1939, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and departed this life for her Heavenly home, surrounded by family, November 29, 2022, at her home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 83 years, 1 month, and 21 days of age.

Jane graduated with the Mountain Grove High School class of 1957. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Bob Hutsell, on June 2, 1957. This union was blessed with two children, Terry Lee and Lisa Jeaneen. Bob passed away in 1980. Jane was united in marriage to the love of her life, Basil Earl Carter, on April 11, 1981, and gained three more sons, Steven B., Dan, and Tim.

Jane enjoyed her family and loved her grandkids and great-grandkids more than anything. She also loved when her grandkids would bring friends over for her to cook for. She had a tradition of fixing breakfast for several boys on football game days. Jane loved her flowers and spent hours working in her flowerbeds in the front yard. She also loved to shop, cook meals for her family, and decorate for the holidays. Jane was her grandkids number one fan and loved watching and cheering them on at sporting events, rarely missing a game.

Jane accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and had been a long-time member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church at the time of her passing. Jane always brought a smile to church with her. She warmed the hearts of many with her sweet personality and words of encouragement.

Besides her parents and first husband, Jane was preceded in death by one son, Steve Carter, and three brothers, Joe, Charles and Jerry Dowsey.

She is survived by her loving husband of over 41 years, Basil Carter of the home, son, Terry Hutsell of Springfield, Missouri, daughter, Lisa Alkire and husband, Ralph, of Mountain Grove, daughter-in-law, Terrye Carter of Mountain Grove, son, Dan Carter of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, son, Tim Carter of Mountain Grove, grandkids, Ashley Otwell and Dalton Yarber, Bobby Otwell, Carter Otwell, John Carter and wife, Ashley, Joel Carter and wife, Kelsey, and Jordan Carter and wife, Kadie, great-grandkids, Piper Marie, Logan Carter, Noah Carter, Hudson Carter, Lincoln Carter, and Emmerson Carter, a very special nephew and great-niece, Chris Dowsey and Madison Dowsey, an amazing caregiver who became part of the family, Amber Parris, many other relatives, church family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
