Jarrett Tecumseh Conkin

December 30, 1918 — May 27, 2007

Jarrett Tecumseh Conkin, son of the late Tecumseh and Anna (Ussery) Conkin, was born on December 30, 1918 in West Plains, Missouri, and departed this life on May 27, 2007 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, following a tractor accident on his farm near Mtn. Grove, Missouri. He was 88 years, 5 months, and 28 days of age.
Jarrett grew up in Texas and Wright Counties and was baptized at a young age in Cabool, Missouri. He was united in marriage to June Blakely on December 24, 1940 in Mtn. Grove. Three children were born to this union.
Jarrett served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Campaign and was honorably discharged on March 11, 1946.
He was employed by New Holland Machine Company as a product specialist for twenty-eight years and retired in 1979. He was a member of the VFW Post 3770, Wright County Sheriff’s Posse, Target, Rural Fire Department, Tri-County Fair, and Property Rights.
He was very active in the community, speaking in area elementary schools regarding flags and World War II, helping with the beautification project of the Mtn. Grove downtown square, and he also built and installed flag poles all over Wright County. His interests were; welding, woodworking, creating, inventing, and organizing projects. He was a true patriot who loved America and was an avid reader of local, national, and political issues.
He loved working on his little farm on N Hwy., tending to his horses. He also hired young people over the years to help out on the farm where he taught them mechanical skills and the value of work and life.
Jarrett was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and neighbor. He loved his family and community very much. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: David Conkin; and by one daughter: Elizabeth Ann Bloomfield.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years: June Conkin of their home; his daughter and son-in-law: Dianne and Bill Gooch of Mtn. Grove; one sister: Eva Jane Clark of Cabool, Missouri; two granddaughters: Jodi Tate and Mindy Sirjord; three great-grandchildren: Emma, Ella, and Lian; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
Graveside Memorial services were held Friday, June 1, 10:00 AM in the Hillcrest Cemetery with Ray Bradley, Mary Ann Frazee, and Dianne Gooch officiating. Ray Bradley sang “Brighten The Corner Where You Are.” Bridget Lawson played “Ashokan Fairwell” on the fiddle. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
