'Joe' Bursey Joseph Stofer

November 2, 1940 — February 23, 2009

Bursy Joseph “Joe” Stofer, son of the late Bursy and Maxine (Marcy) Stofer, was born on November 2, 1940 in Concordia, Kansas and passed away on February 23, 2009 in the Ozark Community Hospital in Springfield, Missouri following a short illness. He was 68 years, 3 months and 21 days of age.
Joe moved with his family at a young age and grew up and attended school at Norwood, Missouri. He graduated as Valedictorian and president of his class. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Hawkins on November 18, 1961 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Four sons were born to this union. They made their home in the Mansfield area all their married life.
Joe was employed for Hutchens Industries in Mansfield for over thirty years. His whole life revolved around raising and training horses. He was a longtime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and an instructor for area 4-H groups. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing
Joe was known as a very hard worker and was always willing to help those around him in need.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Geraldine Stofer on November 13, 1997.
Joe is survived by his four sons: Terry Stofer of Ava, Missouri, Billy Stofer and his wife, Shelle, of Mansfield, Missouri, Larry Stofer of San Diego, California, and Bobby Stofer and his wife, Linda, of Cabool, Missouri; two brothers: Leo Stofer and his wife, Caroline, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri and Golden Stofer and his wife, Colleen, of Macomb, Missouri; one sister: Vola Moore and her husband, Eldon, of Elkland, Missouri; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.


Graveside Service:
Thursday, February 26, 10:00 AM in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation:
Wednesday, February 25, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
Burial:
Hillcrest Cemetery
