Junior Ray Shelton

January 11, 1940 — August 15, 2012

Junior Ray Shelton, son of the late Aaron and Mattie Lee (Butts) Shelton, was born on January 11, 1940 in Doniphan, Missouri, and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at his residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a one year battle with cancer. He was 72 years, 7 months, and 4 days of age.

Junior grew up and attended school in the Doniphan area. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Smith on March 31, 1959 in Gideon, Missouri. Five children were born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area for many years.

Junior was a self-employed carpenter during his adult years. He liked building and remodeling homes. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when hunting and fishing.
Junior was saved at age thirty-seven at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Cabool. He was a longtime member of the Prior Freewill Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending services as long as his health permitted.

He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His favorite pastime was playing with his grandkids. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Jesse Ray Shelton; and by five brothers: Tommy Shelton, James Shelton, Marion Lee Shelton, Aaron Cook, and Clarence Cook.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years: Carolyn Shelton, of their home; two sons: Joey Shelton and his wife, Wendy, of Pomona, Missouri and Rob Shelton and his wife, Charity; of Mount Vernon, Missouri; two daughters: Virginia Merchant and her husband, Stacy, of Manes, Missouri, and Janet Jones and her husband, Tom, of Willow Springs, Missouri; one brother: David Shelton of Cabool, Missouri; three sisters: Pat Shelton of Ava, Missouri, Kathy Wells, and her husband, Don, and Barbara Shelton, all of Cabool, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
