Kenneth D. Knox

April 16, 1934 — January 21, 2007

Kenneth Darrell Knox was born in Idalou, Texas on April 16, 1934. He was the second son of Kenneth and Gertrude (Rogers) Knox. He grew up in Texas, California, and New Mexico.
The Knox family moved from Kerrville, Texas to Graff, Missouri in 1950. Kenny served in the National Guard for two years prior to entering the Navy in 1952. While on leave from the Navy in 1955, he met Velma (Lawson) Knox. Kenny and Velma were married in May of 1956 and enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Through the union of their marriage, four sons were born: Kenneth Andrew of Kansas City, Missouri; Michael Darrell who in infancy preceded him in passing; Timothy Harlan of Rogersville, Missouri; and Stephan Harvey of the home.
Kenny served his country for 22 years and retired from the Navy in 1972. He was also a rural letter carrier for several years. But his biggest and most rewarding achievement was preaching the Gospel, which he did very well until his health failed in 2006. He has fought a good fight this past year against cancer. His courage and his life touched many people along the road he has traveled. Kenny enjoyed his work as a minister and the brotherhood of fellow preachers, especially Pat Casey of West Plains and Harvey Young of Oklahoma. Kenny was a true and loyal friend in his relationships.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, his mother Gertrude, and his only brother John, whose funeral was presided over by Kenny through his strength and courage.
He is survived by four sisters: Betty Green of Kansas City, Linda Plaster of Kerrville Texas, Dorothy Lawson of Strafford Missouri, and Terry Turner of Ottawa Kansas. He had six grandchildren that were the light of his eye: Michael, Christi, Kara, Kaileigh, John, and Elizabeth. In addition, he had lots of nieces and nephews who loved him, and whom he loved dearly.
His church family, at the Cabool Church of Christ, was extremely important to him. He loved and respected them, and their prayers and love have been his and Velma’s strength this past year.
Funeral services for Kenneth Knox were held Wednesday, January 24, 2007, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Ministers Harvey Young and Pat Casey officiating.
