Lana Gail Nelson

March 4, 1970 — February 25, 2021

Lana Gail Nelson, daughter of Otis Woods and Sue (Skaggs) Anderson, was born on March 4, 1970 in Peoria, Illinois, and passed away on February 25, 2021 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was 50 years, 11 months, and 21 days old. Lana grew up and attended school in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Lawrence "Willie" Nelson on November 28, 1987 in Mountain Grove, Missouri, where they lived until June 2018 when they moved to Rogersville, Missouri, to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.

Lana was a kind, beautiful soul. During her life she was a caretaker for many family members and a childcare provider for a multitude of children. She had a loving, caring heart for everyone and was a mighty servant of the Lord. In most recent years, she enjoyed attending Norwood Assembly of God with her mother, Sue Anderson, when she was able.

Lana enjoyed camping, swimming, taking drives on the backroads, playing card games, and writing recipes. She always cooked enough food to feed an army and made sure everyone was invited. Many holidays were spent at her house, eating her food. As long as she was surrounded by family and friends, she was happy. Lana loved to laugh and make other people laugh. She had an open door and an open heart for many people, including many nieces and nephews. She shared a close bond with each of her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her father, Otis Woods; two Sisters, Cindy Behm and Susanne Woods; one brother, Virgil "Bubby" Woods; one daughter, Kristen Martinez; one grandson, AJ Martinez; one great-grandson, Tyler Burke; her maternal grandparents, Virgil and Martha Skaggs, her favorite mother-in-law, Helen Nelson; a special uncle and aunt, Art and Ona Fisher; and a special cousin, Libby Hutsell.

Lana is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Willie" Nelson of their home; two sons, Kodie Nelson and his wife, Casey Nelson of Ava, Missouri, and Jose Nelson of the home; three daughters, Michelle Music and her husband, Doug Music of Batesburg, South Carolina, Chasity McCay and her husband, Jonathan McCay of Rogersville, Missouri, and Gracie Nelson of the home; her mother, Sue Anderson and her husband, James Anderson of Mountain Grove, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
