Lavelle Headley

February 16, 1927 — December 8, 2022

Lavelle D. Headley, daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl (Moore) Dugger, was born February 16, 1927, in Hartville, Missouri, and passed away December 8, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was 95 years, 9 months, and 22 days of age.

Lavelle grew up and attended school in Hartville, Missouri. After school, she moved to California to help out some of her family, and she met a man there named Harding Headley. They were united in marriage September 24, 1950, and two daughters were born to this union: Yvonne and Carla. In March of 1960, Harding and Lavelle moved their family to their new farm in Hartville, Missouri. For several years, Lavelle stayed busy on the farm and raising her children. Later, she went to work at H.D. Lee Company as a seamstress and she worked there until they closed. She liked to keep busy, and she continued to work at various different jobs in the area until she was in her 80s.

Lavelle was saved and baptized as a young girl, and her church continued to be her most important priority throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Hartville Free Will Baptist Church where she always stayed busy with various church activities. She taught preschool age Sunday School classes, and she helped organize and cook many church dinners. She was especially known for her homemade chicken and dumplings, rolls, and pies. She even entered many local contests with her pies.

Lavelle was also a member of the Hartville Garden Club, and she was able to serve as president of the club for a time. She always enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and working in her flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and crafts, but she especially loved crocheting. Her mother taught her to crochet at a young age, and throughout the years, she has crocheted many afghans and doilies for her family and friends.

Besides her parents, Lavelle was preceded in death by her husband, Harding Headley, two brothers, Otis Dugger and Gene Dugger and his wife, Ginny, and two infant sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Cannon and her husband, James, of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, and Carla Munger and her husband, Paul, of Rolla, Missouri, four grandchildren, Michelle Wallach of Springfield, Missouri, Angela Chadwick and her husband, Wyatt, of Colorado, Amanda Wilbanks of Rolla, Missouri, and Stefanie Sidwell and her husband, Jason, of Fenton, Missouri, five great-grandchildren, Maya Wallach, Annalee Wallach, Stella Wallach, Avery Sidwell, and Zoey Sidwell, and many other extended family and friends who will miss her.
