Lewis Oliver Mayfield, son of the late Andrew Jackson and Margaret (Hurtt) Mayfield, was born on May 15, 1925 in Mountain Grove, Missouri and departed this life on December 28, 2011 in the Columbia Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was 86 years, 7 months, and 13 days of age.

Lewis grew up in the Mountain Grove area. He joined the United States Army in 1944 and served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1946. He married Joy Peterson on August 13, 1947 in Harrisonville, Missouri. Five children were born to this union.

Lewis spent his career working as a carpenter, building new homes and remodeling. He loved to fish and deer hunt in his spare time and enjoyed working in his flowerbeds and gardening. He also loved spending time at his son and grandson's shop.
Lewis was saved and baptized as a young man and was a member of Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church in Mountain Grove. He enjoyed attending services and the fellowship of his church family. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Donald Ray Mayfield; two brothers: Ben and Hobert Lee Mayfield; three sisters: Louise, Betty, and Mary; and by two grandchildren: Teresa Top and Christopher Mayfield.

Lewis is survived by his loving wife of their home: Joy Mayfield; three sons: Larland Mayfield and his wife, Midge, of Drury, Missouri, Orland Mayfield and his wife, Debbie, of Mountain Grove, and Harland Mayfield and his wife, Shona, of Mountain Grove; one daughter: Sharlene Bradley and her husband, Jerry, of Mountain Grove; four brothers: Bud Mayfield and his wife, Earlene, of Theodosia, Missouri; Wilbur Mayfield, Don Mayfield and his wife, Mayadele, and Bill Mayfield and his wife, Eva, all of Mountain Grove; thirteen grandchildren: Andy Mayfield, Amanda Brammer, Marie Bruffett, Larland Mayfield Jr., Dustin Mayfield, Louie Mowan, Vonya Lybbert, Stephen Bradley and his wife, Lela, Kathy Pae and her husband, Johnny, Teresa Colby and her husband, Roger, Talitha Top, Marinus Top, and Levi Top; twenty great-grandchildren: Tyler Mayfield, Tristan Webb, Nathan Smart, Gary Dale Bruffett, Raylynn Mayfield, Hannah Mayfield, Chasten Mayfield, Sebastian Mowan, Harland Dean Mowan, Luther Moore, Trenton Moore, Teascha Hulbert, Orland Mayfield, Louis Mayfield, Lydia Brammer, Kalib and Skyler Bradley, and Alex, Zack, and Zoie Colby; four great-great-grandchildren: Kaylee Hulbert, Gabe Hulbert, Jonathan Hulbert, and Bently Joe Moore; and many other relatives, neighbors, friends, and church family.
