Linda Holland

October 13, 1950 — October 1, 2010

Linda Holland of Lee’s Summit passed from this life on October 1, 2010 and entered paradise with her Savior after a reverent and courageous battle with cancer.

Linda was born on a farm near Mountain Grove, MO on October 13, 1950 to Violet and Luel Long. She married her soul mate, Derek in 1970. To this union of 40 years, God entrusted two sons, Jamey and Benjamin, who were the treasures of her life.

Linda earned a degree from Southwest Missouri State University and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Music from the Conservatory of Music at UMKC. She began her teaching career in 1972, teaching vocal music at three area schools: Fort Osage Junior High 1972-77, Smith-Hale Junior High 1978-90, and Blue Springs School District 1991-95. She taught vocal music to 10,000 students during her career.

After leaving teaching, she worked at the Brain Injury Association of Kansas City for two years. She then worked at Midland Loan Services where she became vice president of collateral services.

Linda was a vivacious and energetic woman who lived her life with infectious and unbounded optimism. She was multi-talented: an accomplished soprano vocalist and pianist, a marathon runner, a respected teacher, and an effective business manager. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Her joyous life emanated from her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. During her battle these past months her fervent and constant prayer was that Christ would be glorified through her trial. All who have been in contact with her will provide testimony that her prayer was answered.

She is survived by her husband, Derek; sons Jamey, Benjamin and his wife Ashley; five grandchildren: Lorren, Jessica, Audrey Mae, Lily and Addison; her parents Violet and Luel Long of Mountain Grove, MO; a brother Vernon and his wife Virginia; a sister Connie Dake and her husband Junior; a brother-in-law Jeff Holman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins from her Long and Holland families.
