Lisa Donita (Freeman) Akers

August 21, 1968 — February 14, 2014

Lisa Donita (Freeman) Akers, was born August 21, 1968 to Don and Linda (Hurst) Freeman at Doc Mitchem’s Clinic in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She departed this life on February 14, 2014 at 7:54 PM, surrounded by family and friends after a four year long illness. Until the last four months she was able to hide the pain and fatigue that slowly took over her body, never losing her smile or sense of humor.
Lisa graduated from Houston High School in 1987 with high honors. She worked at H.D. Lee, in Houston, Missouri until she was united in marriage to Gary Akers on July 25, 1988. One son was born to this union, Derek James Akers, on March 8, 1990.
Lisa grew up on a farm in Texas County. She loved anything to do with the outdoors such as: riding horses, driving tractors, showing up her dad on the bulldozer, 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, trails, hunting, and fishing. No dresses or frills for this girl; Baby’s got her blue jeans and boots on. Working on cars and trucks or even cleaning out the horse barn sounded better to her than baking brownies or cooking over a hot stove, even though she was a good cook. It was a good thing Derek loved McDonald’s hamburgers.
Lisa loved being around younger kids and doing crazy things like balloon fights and racing dirt bikes. She was a unique and special person to all she came in contact with. Besides her son, Derek, her greatest joy was found on January 29, 2010 when her grandson, Hayden Akers, was born. No matter how bad she felt, when Hayden walked through the door and said, “where’s my nana?” a smile would light her face. Lisa will always be remembered as the one you could laugh and cut up with and have a good time. She was thankful for all the visitors, calls, and help she received.
Lisa was preceded in death by her mother: Linda Freeman on January 17, 2007; her maternal grandparents: Raymond and Ethel Hurst; her paternal grandparents: Lester and Alta Freeman; and one nephew: Tyler Freeman.
Lisa is survived by her father: Don Freeman, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law: Derek and Joanne Akers; one brother: Randy Freeman; one grandson: Hayden Akers; one niece: Melissa Freeman and partner, Ferlin, all of Mountain Grove; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends who will miss her.
Lisa’s family and friends would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Three Rivers Hospice for going above and beyond in making her last days better. Following Lisa's passing, Three Rivers Hospice continued to help the family through this difficult time, and for this we owe you our heart-felt gratitude.
