Lola 'Hassie' Smith

August 27, 1925 — January 16, 2011

Lola Hasseltine “Hassie” Smith, daughter of the late Fred and Martha (Keiger) Clark, was born on August 27, 1925 in Greenville, Missouri, and departed this life on January 16, 2011 while a resident of the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. She was 85 years, 4 months and 20 days of age.

Lola grew up and attended school in the Greenville area and later moved to Mtn. Grove, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Ivil Eugene Smith in 1948 in Mtn. Home, Arkansas. Two sons were born to this union. They made their home and raised their sons in the Mtn. Grove Community.

Lola was a true homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. She also worked custodial and cleaning jobs over the years. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center for lunch and playing bingo with her friends whenever possible.

She loved her family very much and looked forward to traveling to Columbia to visit with her son, Harley Van.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Mtn. Grove where she enjoyed attending services and visiting with her friends as long as her health permitted.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Frank and Everett; and by six sisters: June, Edna, Bertha, Wanda, Virgie and Nora.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years: Ivil Smith of their home; her sons: Harley Van Smith and his friend, Vicky, of Columbia, Missouri, and Phillip Dean Smith and his friend, Lola, of Bruner, Missouri; one brother: Amiel Clark and his wife, Veta, of Mtn. Grove; one sister: Juanita Armstrong and her son, Lynn, also of Mtn. Grove; several nieces; nephews; and two special children she thought of as great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Makiya; and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
