Lola May Dennis

May 25, 1931 — March 12, 2014

Lola May Dennis, daughter of the late Alfred and Arvilla (Williams) Nielsen, was born on May 25, 1931 in Vanzant, Missouri, and departed this life on March 12, 2014 at her residence north of Mtn. Grove, Missouri. She was 82 years of age. Lola May was raised in Douglas County in the Vanzant area. She was united in marriage to Roy Dennis on February 3, 1949 in Wright County. Two children were born to this union. Lola May enjoyed being outdoors taking care of her yard and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens each year. She enjoyed taking care of her chickens and canning the produce from her garden to share with her family. She loved to sew and make quilts. Her family and friends will always treasure the many quilts she made over the years. Lola May was saved and baptized at an early age and was a Deacons wife for many years. She and Roy attended the Rock Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, north of Norwood, since 1962. She always cherished spending time with her family and church family. Besides her parents, Lola May was preceded in death by four brothers: Glen, Harold, Frank, and Oulf; and by two sisters: Opal and Elsie. Lola May is survived by her loving husband: Roy Dennis of their home; one son: Larry Dennis and his wife, Clara Faye, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; one daughter: Marilyn Marah and her husband, Larry, of Norwood, Missouri; one brother: Don Nielsen and his wife, Joyce, of Pomona, Missouri; three sisters: Pearl Hill of Springfield, Missouri, Christine Gasperson and her husband, Paul, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and Sue White and her husband, Tom, of Willow Springs, Missouri; four grandchildren: Lori Hyde and her husband, Mike, James Dennis and his wife, Pam, Cristy Calhoun and her husband, Rick, and Rhonda Hoffman; eleven great-grandchildren: Preston Jarrett, Cheyanne Jarrett, Hali Jarrett, Jaxen Holman, Rileigh Holman, Tristan Dennis, Payton Dennis, Ryan Calhoun, Caleb Calhoun, Megan Calhoun, Hunter Davidson, and Summer Hoffman; many other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.


Visitation: Friday, March 14th from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Funeral Service: Saturday, March 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel. Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery Memorial Contributions: The Gideons c/o the funeral home
