Lonnie Dan Hicks

December 13, 1934 — April 8, 2012

Lonnie Dan Hicks, age 77, of Vanzant, Missouri, departed this life from the arms of his loving family into the arms of Jesus on April 8, 2012 in the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on December 13, 1934 in Drury, Missouri, the youngest child born to Dan and Icy (Moss) Hicks.
He grew up in the Ozarks and had many fond memories of his childhood. He joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he moved to California, where he met and married Deanna Talbot on July 15, 1961. They had fifty wonderful years together. Three children were born to this union, William, Denicia and Brian.
Although he attended church as a child, he was saved and then baptized in Brush Creek in 1998 by Rev. Gail “Bud” Scherer, not too far from his grandmother’s old home place.
Lonnie had a love for trucks and spent many hours and miles behind the wheel, driving over-the-road, accident free. He hauled many types of commodities, with his own truck and for others. He retired and moved with his family back to Missouri in 1992.
Lonnie liked to hunt, fish, and tend to his big gardens each year. He was a wonderful, giving person and was always ready to help when needed. He loved his family dearly and was happiest when they were all together.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Mina Hicks and Agnes Hicks; and by four brothers: Elmer Hicks, Willis Hicks, Martin Hicks, and James Hicks.
He is survived by his wife: Deanna Hicks of their home; his sons: William Hicks and his wife, Sandra, of Springfield, Missouri and Brian Hicks of Rogersville, Missouri; his daughter: Denicia Chapman of Rogersville, Missouri, and his twin daughters: Kris Spangler and her husband, Chris, and Kathy Maudlin, all of Kansas City, Missouri; his sister: Deloris George and her husband, Wendell, of Beaverton, Oregon; a sister-in-law: Zela Hicks of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers-in-law: Maurice Talbot and his wife, Diane, of Fresno, California, and Lloyd Talbot and his wife, Diane, of Kingsburg, California; his grandchildren: Maurissa Otero and her husband, Alfredo, of Fremont, California, Jeremiah Hicks of Springfield, Missouri, Samantha Brown and her husband, Caleb of Seymour, Missouri, Jacob Hicks of Springfield, Missouri, Heather Chapman, Hailey Chapman, Rebeccah Hicks, Jessica Hicks, and Bailey Hicks, all of Rogersville, Missouri, Laura Springer and her husband, Scott, of Lee Summit, Missouri, Jason Page and his wife, Cassie, of Holden, Missouri, Valerie Jennings, of Lenexa, Kansas and Sarah Jennings of Holden, Missouri; his great-grandchildren: Isabella, Victoria, Nicolas, and Penelope Otero; Grayson Brown, Megan Taylor, Kayla, Jessica and Ellie Page, and Cole and Chase Atkinson; several nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
