Lonzo Marion Maxwell

Lonzo “Ted” Marion Maxwell, son of the late Samuel H. and Sarah M. (Ratterree) Maxwell, was born on September 16, 1912 in Huggins, Missouri and departed this life on July 15, 2008 in the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, following a long illness. He was 95 years, 9 months and 29 days of age.

Lonzo grew up in the Huggins Community and was united in marriage to Bonnie Marie Baty on April 13, 1943 in San Luis Obispo, California. They made their home in Missouri since 1945 and were living in Mtn. Grove at the time of his passing. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on March 22, 1944.

Lonzo owned and operated a Barber Shop in Mtn. Grove for eighteen years. He enjoyed clock making, wood working, gardening, and beekeeping.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and liked listening to and watching the games whenever he could.

Lonzo was saved and baptized while in the service. He became a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove in 1958 and had attended the First Baptist Church for the past eleven years.

He was a caring husband and friendly neighbor and friend. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife: Bonnie Maxwell of their home; several nieces; nephews; church family; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Lonzo Maxwell were held Friday, July 18, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Rev. Lynn Wood, Rev. Gene Edwards, and Dennis Maxwell officiating. Ray Bradley sang “How Great Thou Art.” The First Freewill Baptist Quartet sang “I Believe In A Hill Called Mt. Calvary,” “Sail Away Home,” and “In The Garden.” Teresa Bradley served as musician. Pallbearers were Sean Rutz, Dwain Murphy, Junior Brill, Gayle White, Dennis Maxwell, and Lawrence Porter. Honorary pallbearers were Max Walker, Bill Parker, Paul Harker, Kenny Baty, Lynn Hurtt, Montie Baty, and Larry Baty. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.

Thursday, July 17, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
