Louise Murr

January 13, 1926 — June 11, 2016

Mildred Louise (Oxley) Murr, daughter of the late Thomas Oxley and Hattie Susan (Bushong) Oxley, was born January 13, 1926, in Texas County, just north of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and departed this life, surrounded by family, on June 11, 2016, at Kabul Nursing Home, Cabool, Missouri. She was 90 years, 4 months, and 28 days of age.
Louise was baptized at a young age at the Christian Church. She attended Bendavis Church of Christ, Bendavis, Missouri, until her death.
Louise grew up in the Brushyknob community, Northeast of Mtn. Grove. She attended Mt. Zion School for 1st 8th grades, Gravel Point High for 9th and 10th grades, and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1943. She took Teacher Education in Mtn. Grove and did her student teaching at Gravel Point the last eight weeks of her senior year. Louise took the Teachers exams after high school graduation, and started teaching at Freely Give at the age of 17. Freely Give was 10 miles from her home, she was paid $75.00 a month and she paid $15.00 a month for room and board. She taught 12 years in one-room, rural schools in Wright and Texas counties. Louise was an avid reader and instilled the love of reading in many of her students.
On October 20, 1950, her and Roy Murr went to Harrison, Ark. and were married. They started building their home in Graff, Missouri, where she resided for 60 plus years until her health started failing. Louise and Roy were blessed with three wonderful children: Karen Susan (1952), Karma Ellen (1957), and Keith Roy (1960). Roy and Louise both taught school and farmed until Roy became ill. They continued to live on the farm in Graff, Missouri, as a happy family until Roy passed away in 1967. Louise continued her education at Drury University and graduated with a BS in 1975. Louise continued teaching and retired with 40 years of service to schools in Wright County. She retired from Hartville Schools in 1986. Louise liked to travel extensively.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy, and a brother, Melvin Oxley and her step-mother, Hollace Oxley.
Louise is survived by her three children: Karen (Murr) Sinning and husband Gary, Graff, Missouri, Karma Murr, Springfield, Missouri, and Keith Murr and wife Linda, Graff, Missouri; grandchildren: Justin Sinning and wife Sarah, Iowa and Rami Murr, Graff, Missouri; great-grandchildren: Sophia Sinning and Jack Sinning, Iowa. Her brother: Jim Oxley, Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and a sister: Alice Faye Deaton and husband Virl, Mtn. Grove, Missouri; a special friend and week-end caregiver: Danny Losa; a friend and caregiver: Bonnie Rogers. Louise also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends who will miss her very much. She enjoyed the company of family and friends and was the happiest when they were around her.


Visitation: Wednesday, June 15, 2016, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.

Funeral Service: Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.

Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery
