Lucie G. Smith, daughter of the late George and Christina (Holt) Freeman, was born on August 16, 1921 in Texas County, Missouri, and passed away on August 19, 2007 in the Glenwood Healthcare Center in Seymour, Missouri, following a long illness. She was 86 years and 3 days of age.
Lucie grew up in Texas, Wright, and Douglas Counties. She was united in marriage to Ace Huffman and five children were born to this union.
She was later married to Charles “Fred” Smith and two children were born to this union. Mr. Smith passed away in 1973.
Lucie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed family gatherings, sewing, quilt making, tending to her chickens and doing things for her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was a long time member of the Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church north of Norwood, Missouri. She enjoyed attending before moving away and as long as her health permitted. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Ace Huffman and Charles Smith; and by two children: Thomas William and Florance Elizabeth.
She is survived by two sons: Carl Huffman and his wife, Sandy, of Seymour, Missouri, and Darrol Huffman of West Plains, Missouri; three daughters: Beverly Huffman of Seymour, Missouri, Gail McDonald and Her husband, Cliff, of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Frieda Johnson and her husband, Mark, of Marshfield, Missouri; six step-children; one sister: Inda Dobson of Mtn. Grove; sister-in-law: Pauline Huffman of Parma, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law: Will and Jean Huffman of Parma, Idaho; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Lucie Smith were held Wednesday, August 22, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Russell McDaris officiating. Bernetta Williams and Katie Roberts sang “In The Garden,” and “Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers were Ronnie Loper, Dale Vandiver, Leroy McCall, Charles Kennedy, Junior Reed, and Dallas Strong. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery south of Mtn. Grove, Missouri under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, MO.
