Lyle Reed

January 5, 1941 — July 12, 2022

Lyle Taylor Reed, son of the late Chester and Hazel (Taylor) Reed, was born January 5, 1941, in Douglas County, Missouri, on the “Home Place”, the land his great-grandparents had homesteaded. Lyle passed away July 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. He was 81 years, 6 months, and 7 days of age.

Lyle’s family moved to their new home outside of Mountain Grove when he was five years old. He attended Mountain Grove Schools and graduated from Mountain Grove High School with the class of 1959. Lyle married Barbara Parmenter on June 16, 1962, in Miami, Oklahoma. Two children were born to this union, Bob and Becky.

Lyle had two passions, being an over-the-road truck driver and being able to farm. With the help of his wife, Barb, he was able to achieve both. Lyle and Barb purchased their farm in 1970, which he fell in love with. Lyle spent a lot of time building up the farm and working with the cattle. His greatest moments were when Bob and Sherry moved back to the farm in 1993 from Springfield, Tennessee, and when Becky and Eric moved back from St. Louis, Missouri, in 1998. Lyle passed his love of farming to his son and he passed his patience and kind heart to his daughter.

Lyle enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved traveling, camping, and going on fishing trips with family or with the guys. He also greatly enjoyed any and all times spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Lyle was a generous and hospitable man who loved people. He loved to talk, whether he was visiting about farming and sharing events during calf season or talking about places he had been and the best route to get there. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed laughing and having fun.

Lyle loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and it was evident in his life. He was a faithful member of the Mountain Grove Church of Christ.

Besides his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Landon and Betty Welch, one brother, Charles Reed, and two half-brothers, Chester Phillips and Roy Hale.

He is survived by his loving wife of their home, Barb Reed, one son, Bob Reed and his wife, Sherry, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one daughter, Becky Sandgren and her husband, Eric, of Ozark, Missouri, one brother, Gerald Reed of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one sister, Alice Christensen and her husband, Gene, of Springfield, Missouri, five grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, and Brooke Reed, Caleb and Carson Sandgren, one great-grandson, Matthias Reed, and other relatives, friends, and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
